Quantitative research design for researchers using questionnaires
Duration
4-hour virtual workshop or one day in-person workshop
Audience
Quantitative researchers, Doctoral & Masters students, Postgraduate supervisors
Workshop outline
The objective of this workshop is to assist quantitative researchers in preparing their research projects in a manner that enables them to answer their research questions through statistical analysis. This includes guidance on research approach, research design, sampling methods, and questionnaire construction. After finishing this workshop, participants should be able to gather relevant data for their research project with confidence.
The Statistician R.A. Fisher said: "To consult the statistician after an experiment is finished, is often merely to ask him to conduct a post mortem examination. He can perhaps say what the experiment died of."
This workshop will aid in the research design process to ensure its correct application, preventing the researcher from conducting a "dead experiment."
Essential statistical analysis using a questionnaire as instrument
Duration:
4-hour virtual workshop or one day in-person workshop
Audience:
Quantitative researchers, Postgraduate supervisors, Doctoral & Masters students using questionnaires as research instrument
Workshop outline
The objective of this workshop series is to assist quantitative researchers in analyzing data obtained from a questionnaire. The primary focus will be on the practical implementation of techniques rather than the use of a particular statistical software. Various statistical techniques for analyzing questionnaires will be covered. The workshop will follow the basic cycle of data analysis.
It's important to note that this isn't a statistics course, but a practical workshop on analyzing quantitative data. While data analysis will be discussed, it won't be done hands-on with a computer package. By the end of the workshop, participants should have the ability to execute a data analysis cycle for analyzing quantitative data obtained through a questionnaire as a research instrument.
The structure of the workshop will follow the basic data analysis cycle.
This workshop is a prerequisite for the Intermediate statistical analysis workshop.
Intermediate statistical analysis using a questionnaire as instrument
Duration:
4-hour virtual workshop or one day in-person workshop
Audience:
Quantitative researchers, Postgraduate supervisors, Doctoral & Masters students using questionnaires as research instrument
Workshop outline
The aim of this workshop is to assist researchers in utilizing complex statistical techniques for analyzing questionnaire data. The emphasis will be on practical implementation of techniques, rather than on the use of specific statistical software. Various statistical techniques for analyzing questionnaires will be covered. The workshop will follow the data analysis cycle, with a focus on advanced statistical analysis. The application of statistical techniques will be discussed, with an emphasis on adhering to the assumptions of the techniques and practicing good data analysis.
It's important to note that this isn't a statistics course, but a practical course on analyzing quantitative data. While data analysis will be discussed, it won't be done hands-on with a computer package. By the end of the program, participants should have the ability to execute a data analysis cycle for analyzing quantitative data obtained through a questionnaire as a research instrument.
This workshop series consists of four sessions that are each facilitated as 2-hour workshops.
This workshop is a follow up from Essential statistical analysis using a questionnaire as instrument workshop.
Interpretation and write-up of quantitative results generated from questionnaires
Duration:
4-hour virtual workshop or one day in-person workshop
Audience:
Quantitative researchers, Postgraduate supervisors, and Doctoral & Masters students using questionnaires as research instrument
Workshop outline
The objective of this course is to assist quantitative researchers in interpreting and report the results of quantitative analyses obtained through a questionnaire. The primary focus will be on the accurate scientific write-up of the findings for articles or dissertations. Various statistical techniques commonly used for analyzing questionnaires will be covered, and a template will be introduced to provide a standardized approach to reporting statistical findings. By the end of the workshop, participants should be able to write up quantitative results in a scientifically accurate manner.
This workshop consists of two parts that are each facilitated as 2-hour sessions.
Supervising a quantitative research project
Duration
Two 2-hour virtual workshops or one day in-person workshop
Audience
Postgraduate supervisors & lecturers
Workshop outline
The objective of this workshop is to help prepare the new supervisor to guide a student successfully through a quantitative research project. The focus will be on designing a research project to ensure that the research approach, research design, sampling, and questionnaire are done in such a way that the research questions can be answered by conducting statistical analysis. Note that the data collection instrument used will be a questionnaire.
Upon completion of this program, new supervisors should be able to confidently guide students with their quantitative research project when using a questionnaire as a research instrument.
